Relationships can run into trouble from time to time. While some couples find it easy to talk through their feelings and iron out any issues, others can find it more challenging. Communication breakdown, a build-up of resentment and a lack of empathy are just some areas that can lead to unfavourable changes in your relationship dynamics.
Whether you’ve just entered a romantic relationship or are struggling to maintain your familial or work relationships, relationship counselling can help. I, Mark Greenaway-Robbins, can help you face and navigate the challenges in your relationships.
As a registered counsellor and psychotherapist with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I provide relationship counselling advice for couples in various types of relationships. I see relationships beyond romance and marriage by also offering my couple therapy sessions and relationship counselling for singles, friends, family members and business partners.
I’m naturally passionate and curious about therapy and how I, as a therapist, can bring about a lasting positive difference to the therapeutic healing process. Let’s explore what you can expect from my couple therapy sessions.
Why Seek Relationship Counselling Advice?
Therapy has dramatically evolved over the years, from initially attracting stigma to now being encouraged and discussed openly. This seems to be true for couple therapy sessions, too. Couple therapy or relationship counselling is a collaborative therapeutic process where you talk through the challenges and difficulties in your relationship.
Your relationship doesn’t need to be in a desperate state to start couples counselling therapy. Any two people wanting to improve their communication and rapport can seek relationship counselling advice at any stage. It’s not limited to two people in a romantic relationship and works for two business partners, two friends, or two family members.
Couple therapy sessions with me can help you understand the impact your actions and words have on yourself and your partner. In a private and non-judgmental space, I aim to convert conflicts into open conversations and welcome new perspectives into the relationship.

What to Expect From My Couple Therapy Sessions
In my couple therapy sessions, there are typically three parties in the room in addition to me: each of the partners and the relationship. I consider your relationship to also be a client.
I believe open, honest and non-defensive communication makes couple therapy the most effective. With my help and support in this process, you and your partner can arrive at your own decisions and find a way forward.
I guide you in bringing about positive changes in your relationship. However, ultimately, it’s both of you who decide how you modify your interactions with each other, spending time together and apart and dealing with specific issues.
My relationship counselling advice can help address the following relationship challenges:
- Communication barriers
- Jealousy
- Power struggles
- Commitment issues
- Trust issues due to infidelity
- Sexual problems or incompatibility
- Fertility challenges
- Financial disagreements
- Addictions and behaviours
- Navigating challenging life situations
- Emotional and mental issues
- Falling out of love or losing connection
- Disagreements arising due to different parenting approaches
I aim to develop a conscious relationship between you and your partner, encouraging empathy and understanding. As a couples therapist, I don’t take sides or judge, I promote a process through which the partners themselves decide the best course of action for each of their needs.
As an LGBTQIA+ ally, I adopt an inclusive approach in my couple therapy sessions and welcome all to contact me for more information.
Relationship Therapy Outcomes
Just as every couple is different, so are their issues and therapy outcomes. However, in general, here’s what you can typically expect from relationship therapy:
-
Get to Know Yourself and Each Other Better
Through couple therapy sessions, you get to learn a little bit more about your partner, your relationship, and yourself. Therapy can provide an independent perspective on the various issues and behaviours of the parties involved.
-
Learn How to Resolve Conflicts Amicably
As a therapist, I won’t be resolving your conflicts for you, but I can show you and your partner an amicable approach to resolving issues as a couple.
-
Iron Out Various Issues
Couple therapy sessions help couples work on certain issues creating problems in their relationships, such as poor decision-making, anxiety, ineffective problem-solving skills, and PTSD symptoms.
-
Both Partners Decide the Relationship Goals
As your couples therapist, I can guide you in establishing your relationship therapy goals. In my first session with you, I’ll get an understanding of your therapy goals and will spot any underlying issues in further sessions.
-
Results Can Take Time
In therapy, results aren’t instantaneous and will take time to show. While some couples progress with a few weeks of sessions, others take months or even years to see lasting results.
Positive relationship changes will begin to show gradually as long as both partners are committed to working together.
Patience and perseverance are key to making sure all couple therapy sessions with me are productive and helpful in the long run.
Feel free to connect with me through an email exchange, telephone call, or online meeting to get an understanding of me as your couple therapist. Before our first session, you’ll receive a welcome pack with a contact form, working agreement and references for seeking help outside of my couple therapy sessions.
