Ways of Working

Talking therapy as counselling and psychotherapy can take place in a variety of ways. Which way of working you choose may depend on where you live, your mobility, your level of comfort, what you want to discuss, and your readiness to explore different ways of working. We can discuss these options and what you feel may work for you. You may want to give yourself permission to explore different options in order to discover what meets your needs.

Face to Face

My practice is based at Sophia House on Cathedral Road. It is easily accessible from the City Centre in a 12 minute walk. Parking is available on the street and at Sophia Gardens Car Park. There is a waiting room and facilities.

Online

Working online allows for therapy to take place from wherever you choose. Perhaps you feel more comfortable in your own surroundings. Working in this way offers the same supportive, confidential, and judgement-free setting as a Face to Face session, but one which gives you a personal choice where the work takes place. Sessions are similar to face to face, where you and the therapist agree a time to connect and each session would last up to 50 minutes. The platform used to connect is Zoom which is fully GDPR compliant in terms of security.

Telephone

Telephone counselling sessions are similar to Face to Face, where you and the counsellor would agree a time to connect and each session would last up to 50 minutes. Some clients prefer not to be seen, or not to see their therapist. For others, access to hardware devices for online work, or connectivity, may be problematic, making the phone a more convenient option.

Walk and Talk

This is just like it sounds - the client and the therapist are outside walking during therapy instead of sitting inside an office. For some clients Walk and Talk Therapy is a more relaxed environment than a therapy room. This is offered at Bute Park, meeting near Cardiff Castle. Walk and Talk Therapy allows you to enjoy the restorative power of the natural world while pursuing your goals for therapy. The outdoors in nature becomes the therapeutic space.

Home visits

Sometimes therapy takes place in the residence of the client to meet their needs. This option may be essential for clients with certain mobility requirements, a life-limiting condition, or those who are receiving palliative care. Consideration will need to be given to the client’s geographic residence in relation to my practice rooms in Cardiff. In addition to the session fee, consideration will need to be given to travelling expenses.
